Synthetic Slate Roofing Questions
What is synthetic slate roofing?
Synthetic slate is a molded composite tile made to look like quarried slate. The Brava slate we install is a full inch thick, so it has the depth and shadow lines of real stone, at a fraction of the weight.
Is synthetic slate better than natural slate?
Natural slate lasts a very long time, but it is heavy, brittle and expensive to repair. A cracked slate is hard to color-match years later. Brava synthetic slate gives you the look without the weight, carries a Class 4 impact rating, and does not chip or crack the way stone does.
Will my house need extra framing for a synthetic slate roof?
Usually not. Brava slate weighs about 339 pounds per installed square, which most residential framing carries without changes. We check your roof structure at the estimate visit and tell you if anything needs work.
